About this book

Raj Whitehall has led his men across the face of the planet Bellevue to one victory over the barbarian nations after another, until he is close to achieving his secret mission: resurrecting interstellar civilization with the help of the ancient battle computer Center, which whispers at the back of Raj's mind, giving him superhuman counsel and advice. There's only one problem -- Raj's overlord, whose paranoid suspicion of Raj has grown with every famous victory, until now he has room for only one thought: Raj Whitehall must die. . . .

Reader's Thoughts

Nathan

This omnibus is the last three books of the Raj Whitehall series. Part science fiction, part almost like an historical fiction novel, its jam packed full of action and is paced to keep the pages turning. if you like Drake or SM Stirling, or just enjoy well written military fiction of any kind, you will like these books. read them in order for best results.

Barbara Ghylin

When I finished this I wasn't sure if I was ready for the story to be over. I am still not sure. I very much enjoyed the story line, but not the battle scenes so much. The devil is in the details and there were just too many details. At times I was lost and had to go back and reread a couple of pages to understand the story line. I still find the idea of riding dogs to war AMAZING. What a concept. It was still a good read.

Damon Richard

Raj Whitehall is one of the series that still holds me today.

The Anvil (1993), The Steel (1993), and The Sword (1995) are the next three books of the series in this omnibus edition (ebook).Raj Whitehall, with an ancient AI, is trying to put man back in the stars. First Bellevue, with 19th century technology and 5th century politics, must be united.

Not up to Stirling's other works.

Greg

Good military science fiction, a mix of future and old tech military action. The characters continue to grow and expand, though Raj is still the primary. As good as I remember it when I read them originally...This omnibus is the end for this part of the series. The next books take place on different worlds (But Raj and Center are still involved, in a way at least)
